February News from Kay Pilsbury Thomas Architects

February 18th saw the safe arrival of Sibyl and Jon’s baby son, Pelham; first grandchild for Kay and Peter.  Pelham weighed in at 7 lbs 8oz, and is growing very fast.

See below for a taste of what the rest of KPT was up to during February.
  • Planning Permission and Listed Building Permission applications are currently being produced for conversion of an C.18th Essex Barn to provide ancillary annexe accommodation for the house.  The barn is currently being used as a garden store.
  •  KPT is in pre-application discussion with the Conservation Officer for works to an C.18th thatched cottage in Essex.
  • We are awaiting the Planning and Listed Building Consent for an ancillary pool building to a Grade II Listed Arts and Crafts house in Essex.
  • Planning Permission has been provisionally approved for ground and first floor rear extensions to a delightful C.18th house in Essex.
  • We are awaiting the Highways Report to accompany the Planning Permission and Listed Building Consent applications for re-ordering works to a C.16th Essex Farmhouse.

  • Design and Concept drawings are with the Co-operative of a proposed cafĂ©, which will be set within a C.19th Essex barn.  The Co-operative will be discussing the drawings at a meeting to be held in March.
  •  An application for Planning Permission is currently being prepared for internal alterations to a Grade II Listed, late C16th in-line Hall House in Essex.
  • We are preparing a Quinquennial Report for the Grade II Listed Church of All Saints, Woodford Wells.
  • We are working on the re-ordering and refurbishing of a delightful 1970s house in Essex.  This is an interesting and unusual project for us, as we usually work with old and Listed Buildings.  However, the aim remains the same – to provide a comfortable home for the client.
  •  An application for Planning Permission has been submitted for a new double garage with veranda, and also a garden store within the curtilage of a Grade II Listed cottage in Cambridgeshire.
  • Concept drawings are being prepared for alterations to provide more family and utility space for a C.17th Grade II* Vicarage in Essex.
  • Concept design drawings are underway to provide a two-storey extension to a mid C20th home.  This will provide a ground floor family dining area and first floor master bedroom, en-suite bathroom and dressing room.
  • We are preparing concept design drawings for the conversion of an out building to an annexe for ancillary domestic accommodation for an unlisted house in EssexThe conversion will create an open Living/Diner/Kitchen on the ground floor, with a Bedroom and Bathroom, on the first floor.
  • We are preparing survey drawings for the feasibility of re-developing a vacant plot within the Waltham Abbey Conservation Area.
  • Concept design drawings continue for the replacement of a staircase, creation of a family bathroom, and some re-arrangement of rooms to a Grade II Listed house, dating from C16th in Cambridgeshire.
  • We have prepared sketched views, a plan, and gathered together images for presentation to a Village Hall Committee, allowing the local people to see how a new Village/Sports/Leisure Hall might look.
  • We are doubly delighted to announce:
    • That our entry of Finchingfield Guildhall has been shortlisted for an RIBA Regional Award in the East Region.  Judges will visit the Guildhall in March.
    • That our entry of Finchingfield Guildhall has been shortlisted for the RICS East of England 2014 Community Benefit Award; and also for the Building Conservation Award.  Judges will visit the Guildhall in March.
  • We look forward to welcoming Sarah back in March, to part-time working at the office, after a spell of sick-leave.
  • Monica, Richard and Sibyl carried out initial visits to meet prospective clients and see some fine properties in Essex, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire.  We look forward to featuring these projects in our news very soon.
