June 2014

  • Some of you may have noticed that time has stood still at Radwinter Church for a while, but the great news is that this month Lodge and Sons, with James of Saffron Walden, have started repair works to the church clock, and time will soon be moving forward once more!
  • The Orangery extension and accessible bedroom works have started on site this month at Pleshey House of Retreat.  We are administrating the Contract, and the works are being constructed by Rose Builders.  The project is going well, and an archaeologist has been present, as the site is part of the old Pleshey motte and bailey.
  • Applications for Planning Permission and Listed Building Consent are with the council for a breakfast room extension to a C.17th farmhouse in South Cambridgeshire.
  • We have met with the organ specialist at Galleywood Church, to discuss when the organ will be removed, ready for its reconditioning.  It will then be relocated to the rear of the church.  This project, along with alterations to the North transept to create a Youth Room, will be underway in August/September.
  • We had a great meeting with the DAC, EH and SPAB at St. Mary’s Church, Saffron Walden, and they have given the green light to our proposed alterations within the church to create new elements, including a servery, welcome area, WC and child play area.  All of which will be enclosed within some new, high-quality pieces of bespoke joinery.
  • We met with the South Cambridgeshire Conservation Officer at a cottage in Royston.  She has given us the go-ahead on a storey-and-a-half side extension, and a new study outbuilding with the garden.
  • We have submitted a Planning Application for a single storey Garden Room extension to a moated house near Great Dunmow, and are currently designing and drawing the construction information.
  • We met prospective purchasers at a Hall House near Cambridge, and are helping the auction winners to adapt the house, so that it can become a lovely family home.
  • We have completed construction design and drawings for a Breakfast Room and Utility extension to a Victorian house near Chelmsford, and the works have commenced on site this month with R. J. Pinnock and Sons.
  • Local Food and More, at Blatches Gate, Little Canfield, have worked tirelessly with us, and have submitted an application to HLF.  The vision is to convert a beautiful C.18th Essex barn on the site into a café.  They already have an outdoor sitting area, a kiosk café every weekend and a monthly market.  So please go along and help support this fantastic community project.  http://www.localfoodandmore.org.uk/
  • We have received Planning Permission and Listed Building Consent for a workshop for the Villiers Furniture Company.  http://www.villiers.co.uk/
  • We have been commissioned by the Town Council to provide concepts for the re-ordering of Saffron Walden Town Hall.  In order to do this, we must first understand the history of the building.  To this end, Nicola has been to Chelmsford Records Office to view old plans of the building.
